About us
The Bassano Quartet is a Dutch recorder quartet, founded in 2004. Members are Adriana Breukink, Wolf Meyer, Ronald Moelker and Saskia Teunisse.
The Quartet plays on historically built consort recorders with a length up to almost 3 meters (world’s largest recorder) and on newly developed instruments, such as Eagle and Dream recorders. All instruments originate from the workshop of recordermaker and ensemble member Adriana Breukink. Her instruments are played by famous players and ensembles all over the world.
The Bassano Quartet dedicates itself to exploring new sounds and stretching the boundaries of the recorder repertoire. Having a recordermaker as an ensemble member, offers a unique possibility to explore new possibilities. Very low Pavanes using the stunning subcontrabass in B flat and other very low flutes, sparkling quartets by Mozart and Haydn featuring eagle soprano or alto on the top voice and new arrangements and compositions, exploiting the powerful sound of one or more eagle recorders.
The Quartet’s first CD 'Torres del Alma - Towers of the Soul' with highlights of Spanish renaissance music, was released in 2010 and presented in in the Early Music Festival in St Petersburg, Russia. In 2015, a second CD was released: 'Eagles and Seven Tears', with guest player Daniël Brüggen. On this CD, the 7 Lachrimae Pavanes by John Dowland as well as some other 5-part consort pieces, have been combined with new quartet arrangements featuring Eagle and Dream recorders.
